The Answers: Application for Advanced Degree (AAD)
The AAD is the form by which you tell the University that you are ready to graduate. The form is due at the start of the semester in which you plan to graduate. Because we clear between 30-70 applications (depending on the semester), we request our forms due in the Graduate & Executive Programs Office on/around February 1 (Spring graduation) or September 1 (Fall graduation). (We know the Cover Sheet on the AAD says to turn it in to Grad Studies…again, our department functions differently because of the numbers involved.) Please read the following information and turn your form in to the Graduate & Executive Programs Office.
Please make sure you staple either a check or money order (payable to the University of Delaware) to your AAD. We cannot process your AAD unless a check or money order is attached. We are not able to take cash or credit cards.
Please notice the following items on this sample form:
- List your Name as you want it spelled on your diploma
- List your Student ID # (usually a nine-digit # starting with 700, found on UDSIS)
- List your non-udel Email Address (yahoo, gmail, etc.); this address will work after your udel account is deactivated a couple of months after graduation.
- List the Address where you want the diploma sent. It will ship ~8 weeks after graduation, so make sure it goes to a stable address in case you are moving back home or on to that new job.
- List your Concentration; leave blank if you have a Specialization or no concentration.
- List your Undergraduate and other degree-granting institutions & locations
- Indicate Course Abbreviation & number (BUAD 870, ACCT 801), but not section numbers (-050)
- List your courses in the order they appear on your unofficial transcript, available via UDSIS. Do not rely on your memory!
- Indicate course waivers or course transfers (from other universities) as noted on the sample form
- Leave the grade boxes for your current semester classes blank. Grad Studies will fill in the boxes once the grades have posted.
- Do not list Internships, Grad Assistantships, non-credit classes, pass/fail classes, or that undergraduate film class you took for fun. List only the graded classes you are claiming for your degree.
When you are ready to complete the actual form, please download it and fill it out with Adobe Reader.
FAQs
The only place you’ll sign is your check ($50; payable to the University of Delaware). Our office verifies the courses, concentration, etc., then we get the signatures needed. We copy the forms and send the originals to the Office of Graduate Studies for further verification/processing.
What if I add, change, or drop one of my last classes?
The Office of Grad Studies will make any necessary corrections when they post the final grades. No need to do anything. If you drop a class that you need to graduate, please send me a note that I can forward to Grad Studies. They will simply move your Application to the next graduating semester.
I’ve just gotten married/divorced. What name should I put on the form?
List your name as you want it to appear on your diploma. If needed, attach at sticky note with the prior name, especially if that’s the name listed on UDSIS.
I’m moving after graduation. How do I get my diploma?
Look on UDSIS to see if are able to change your address. Make all the changes you can. Then, send an email with your full legal name, your student ID #, and your old and new addresses clearly marked. We’ll forward it to the Office of Graduate Studies.
I just finished my last class! Where’s my diploma?
The Office of Grad Studies waits until all grades are posted before beginning the final verification of grades. Once this is complete, in approximately 4 weeks, the names are sent to the printers. Approximately 4 weeks after that, diplomas arrive here on campus and are turned around to you via US Mail. Once your degree has been cleared, you will receive a letter from Mary Martin congratulating you on your accomplishment. This letter serves as official documentation that your degree has been conferred. Keep this letter! Your diploma will arrive 6-8 weeks later to the same address.
My diploma came with a wrong or misspelled name, crease, rip, tear, or other unsightly problem.
Contact the Registrar’s Office to report the damaged or incorrect name.
