UD MBA EDGE

Among the most important distinctions any MBA program offers are the relevance of its curriculum, the excellence of its faculty and the opportunity to put into practice what has been learned. The University of Delaware Lerner College constantly refines its MBA curriculum to reflect the dynamic, global, and competitive business environment of the 21st Century and to prepare graduates for success in that environment. All of MBA courses are taught by expert faculty who are nationally and internationally renowned. Through our Corporate Associate Program, MBA Success Program, and Tyler Lecture Series, UD MBA students have the opportunity to complement their in-class learnings by interacting with the regional business community.

At the University of Delaware, the curriculum is designed for maximum flexibility. It is not a static list of courses, but a dynamic, interactive, and up-to-the-minute roster of powerful learning programs. There are no prerequisite courses for the UD MBA, although basic skills in math, writing, and computing are expected.

Curriculum

The MBA degree may be pursued full time, part-time or in an accelerated format. Full time students generally take 12 credits per semester and attend four semesters over 2 years. Attending courses during winter and summer sessions can accelerate the full time program. Part time students generally take 6 credits per semester and attend 8 semesters over 4 years. Attending courses during winter and summer sessions can accelerate the part time program to 2 to 3 years. The Executive MBA provides an accelerated format for the seasoned professional. The EMBA is offered on Friday evenings and Saturdays for 45 weekends over a 19 month period.

Requirements

The degree requires the successful completion of full 48 credits (usually 16 courses). The core and required courses make up 30 credits (10 courses of the degree) and the remaining 18 credits (6 courses) are electives. Electives can be grouped together to pursue a particular area of interest, 12 credits of electives in a specific discipline can define a concentration or specialization. Students must take at least 3 credits of international business electives and no more than 12 credits of electives can be completed in any one business discipline. UD graduate level courses outside the Lerner Business College may be used as MBA electives. This gives students the opportunity to pursue non-business related areas of their professional field of study: engineering, public policy, sport management. (The Executive MBA is a lock step program with specialty courses selected specifically for the Executive leader, and does not offer electives, concentrations, or specializations.)
