International Applicants
The University of Delaware is an ideal place for international students. We invite you to take a pictorial tour of our beautiful campus in Newark, Delaware. Newark is a small town in a small state, so the atmosphere is safe and welcoming. Yet you could say we are right in the middle of the major business hub of the U.S. East Coast. More than half of all Fortune 500 companies are incorporated in Delaware. New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC, are all within a two- to three-hour drive. We welcome the opportunity to expose you and other students from around the world to the Delaware Advantage.
As an international student in the UD MBA program, you will not be alone. International students make up approximately 40 percent of the program’s full-time students. You will join a tapestry of students from around the world, including Colombia, Ecuador, Aruba, Austria, Bulgaria, Ireland, Turkey, Russia, India, Nepal, the People’s Republic of China, Singapore, Taiwan, Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa, as well as many from across the United States. There are many international graduate student organizations to help you feel at home quickly.
As an international applicant, you must fulfill all the admission requirements for domestic students. In addition, you must also
- Submit a TOEFL score or IELTS score (or apply through the MBA Conditional Admission Program)
- Provide translation and other supporting documents for transcripts
- Submit financial information
- Maintain health insurance
The University’s Office of Graduate Studies has detailed information regarding each of these requirements.
Indian 3 Year Degree Holders
Applicants with 3 year degrees from India will be considered for admission based on the following criteria:

- Must submit 2 Letters of Recommendation
- Must submit essay questions
- An interview will be scheduled either on the phone or in person with all viable candidates
TOEFL / IELTS Information
If you are from a non-English speaking country, you must score at least 100 on the Internet based TOEFL or 7.5 on the IELTS to be considered for admission into the UD MBA program (these scores do not secure admission). Note that these scores are higher than the University’s requirement because the MBA program includes a significant amount of discussion and written English.
Conditional Admission Information
If you need preparatory English language study before applying to an MBA program, you can take advantage of the University of Delaware's MBA Conditional Admissions Program (MBA-CAP). This is a joint program of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics and the University’s English Language Institute (ELI).
Once you are admitted to an MBA program, you may also find the English Language Institute’s summer PreMBA program valuable. This five-week program prepares international students for study in a U.S. MBA program, regardless of the institution offering the MBA. Topics covered include
- English language skills
- Business concepts and vocabulary
- Academic skills
- Cross-cultural orientation
The University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business and Economics offers an outstanding opportunity not only to learn about business, but to experience it as well. Our Corporate Associates Program, Tyler Executive Leadership Lecture Series, and Carol A. Ammon MBA Case Competition are just a few of the ways you can put into practice the expertise you gain in the classroom.
