Admission Requirements

In general, the UD MBA program is looking for applicants who have

  • Two years professional work experience (How to Waive)
  • The equivalent of a 4-year Bachelor's Degree

 

How to Apply

The University needs the following items to properly process your Graduate Application.

  1. Graduate Admission Application
  2. Official transcripts of all previous academic work
  3. Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) results (GMAT Alternatives)
  4. Two letters of recommendation
  5. Focused-topic essays
    1. What are your vocational objectives and how will your proposed plan of graduate study relate to them?
    2. Critique our effort to market the University of Delaware MBA programs by using specific examples of where and how you heard about our program. Honestly assess how effective that vehicle was in drawing you to apply for admission. What are some strengths? What could be done better? What is the best way to reach prospective students like you? We are looking for insightful, specific, and brief essays.
    3. Optional: Are there any special circumstances related to your academic record that you think we should consider?
  6. International Applicants: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results or apply through our MBA Conditional Admission Program.
  7. Current Resume

You may apply and be admitted on a part- or full-time basis. We admit new students to the professional MBA program in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Applications are immediately considered upon completion. Once all your material is received, a pre-admission interview may be scheduled.

 

Submitting Documents

Please complete your initial application form online. In many instances, you will need to mail additional documents, such as transcripts, your resume, or the $75 application fee if you pay by check. When mailing these documents, please be sure to include your full legal name and date of birth, and mail all documents to the following address:

Application Essays

The essay link will become available online one to two business days after the application form is submitted and the application fee is paid. Once your application and payment are received, you may return to the online application form to view and complete the essays.

 

Admission Criteria

We base admission decisions on a number of factors, including the following:

  • Work experience
    At least 2 years of full time professional work experience is required for admission consideration. Some significant internships completed as an undergraduate may be considered toward the 2 year total, however the bulk of the experience should be gained after graduation.
  • Interview
  • Undergraduate GPA ( At least 2.8)
  • GMAT scores( at least 550 with all sections in the 50th percentile or above)
  • International Applicants - TOEFL score (100 IBT) or IELTS score (7.5)
  • Previous graduate study
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Quality and professionalism of application essays

 

Deadlines

Although the University of Delaware has no official deadline for graduate application submission, we highly recommend that your application be submitted with ample time for review. Specifically, if you are inquiring about funding, you must adhere to the following deadlines to be sure your application is considered

Recommended Deadlines

  • Fall Semester - June 1st (Submission for funding consideration by February 1st)
  • Winter Session - November 1st
  • Spring Semester - December 1st
  • Summer Session - May 1st

Requirement and Waivers

Two Years Work Experience
You may obtain a waiver from the University for the two-year work experience requirement if you hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited United States college or university in a scientific, engineering, or information technology-related field. At least one professional internship in the technical field must be completed in order to be considered for admission.

GMAT
If you’d like to begin MBA coursework prior to taking the GMAT, you may wish to consider the MBA Pathways Program.

A GMAT waiver may be granted if an applicant has satisfied ALL of the following:

  • Successfully completes (Grade of "A") nine (9) credits of coursework through MBA Pathways
  • Outstanding resume with extensive professional work experience of at least ten (10) years
  • Successful prior academic experience (undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher from a U.S. institution)
  • All other admission requirements

 

Tuition Information

Tuition charges vary depending on whether you are a Delaware resident or a resident of another state or country. For current Tuition rates, room and board and student fees visit the UD Department of Billing & Collection.

U.S. citizens may apply for Perkins Loans, College Work Study, and Stafford Loans. To qualify for these programs, you must file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) no later than March 15th (February 1st is preferred) with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Delaware Residency Information

To qualify as a Delaware resident for fee purposes, you must maintain a domicile and continuous residence in Delaware for 12 months immediately prior to the date of proposed enrollment. This requirement applies to your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if you are economically dependent (i.e., if they claim you as an exemption for federal income tax purposes); otherwise, you should complete the appropriate section of the admissions application for yourself. Foreign applicants holding a visa are not eligible for Delaware residency.
