Corporate Associate Program Details
How are Corporate Associates selected?
Employers seeking a Corporate Associate provide a detailed position description to be posted on our Corporate Associate web site. Students who apply for the position are carefully screened by the Corporate Relations & Career Management Office, with first consideration given to those in their final year who are the most advanced in their studies. Resumes of the qualified candidates are forwarded to the employer for consideration. Employers are responsible for interviewing and selecting the Corporate Associate(s) of their choice. Employers should make their selection decisions by April 30 for the summer term; by July 30 for the fall term; and by November 30 for the spring term.
How long is the commitment?
Corporate Associates may start work at the outset of any term. The associate works an average of 20 hours per week while attending school in the fall and spring terms. The fall and spring terms are 19 weeks each, running from September 1 to January 15, and January 16 to May 31, respectively. The summer term runs 10 weeks from June 1 through August 31. The Associate’s summer obligation is 40 hours per week.
What are the employer's responsibilities?
Employers are expected to provide the Associate with work assignments of a truly professional nature consistent with the approved job description. Concerns or special considerations related to the Associate’s performance should be communicated to the Corporate Relations & Career Management Office as they occur. Near the end of each term, the employer will submit a formal performance evaluation which is designed to serve as the basis to retain the Associate for the next term.
Local Employers
The cost to the employer is $9,900 per student per term. The University matches the employer’s contribution with a tuition scholarship for each term of program participation. The employer’s payment allows the University to provide a $7,600 stipend to the Corporate Associate and cover student payroll and insurance expenses and program administration costs. For non-profit organizations, the cost per term is $7,600. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice issued by the University of Delaware.
Distant Employers
The Corporate Associate program is now available in the summer to employers located over 45 miles from the student’s place of residence and requires the student to make temporary living arrangements.
The student is available to work 10 weeks from June 1 through August 31. The Associate’s summer obligation remains 40 hours per week. The cost to the employer is $12,900. The employer’s payment allows the University to provide a stipend of $10,600 to the student.
